There’s not much to say that has not already been said about Antárctica.
May be it is worthwhile to remind that is the last big corner of Planet Earth yet to be discovered; that has been the scenary of epic trips such as Amudsen, Scott, Nordenskjöld y Shackleton among other adventurers and explorers.
Also that Antarctica is the largest glacier area of the world (approximately 8 million of square kilometres) and it holds the 80% of the fresh water supply of our Planet.
And in spite of its unforgiving weather, its surrounding seas and oceans are the natural habitat for a very rich and diverse marine wildlife and seabirds.
The southern summer, from November thru March, with its night less days, is the ideal season to visit the area.
Highlights of the trip: Beagle Channel and McKinley Pass. Crossing of the Drake Passage; exploring the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula; sightings of icebergs and snow-capped mountains; the flooded caldera of Deception Island and the chance to swim in the hot springs of Pendulum Cove. Paradise Bay. Livingston Island.
An amazing variety of seabirds, including many albatrosses, vast penguin rookeries, colonies of nesting Adelie and Chinstrap Penguins, Macaroni, Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins; Kelp Gulls, Blue-eyed Cormorants, Antarctic Terns and Southern Giant Petrels. Whales, beaches ruled by Antarctic fur seals and southern elephant seals; Weddell, crabeater and leopard seals as well as Minke, killer (orca) and humpback whales at close range.
Paulet Island, where the Nordenskjöld expedition built a stone survival hut in 1903.
